(NEW YORK) -- A New York City police officer was convicted Tuesday of plotting to kidnap and eat women.
His lawyers said it was all fantasy but jurors agreed with federal prosecutors who said what Gilberto Valle talked about on a fetish website was real. Valle discussed plans to kidnap women, cook them at low heat for his own entertainment and even researched potential victims on a government database.
His attorneys insisted it was part of a fantasy protected by freedom of speech. Prosecutors said the Internet does not confer immunity for plotting crimes.
